According to recently leaked documents by Germany's Der Spiegel magazine, the US National Security Agency, NSA, can intercept iphone SMS text messages, voicemail, geolocation data, cell tower location, and contact lists; capture conversations over the iPhone’s microphone; and snap pictures via the camera. How does the NSA do this? By rerouting shipments of phones purchased by targeted customers inorder to install a monitoring software called Dropoutjeep. We already know that the NSA can intercept the world’s Internet communications, tap Google's and Yahoo’s corporate networks and collect revealing data on many phone calls around the world, even phone calls of Heads of State.
Iphone maker, Apple, says it knew nothing about the iPhone exploit, and has vowed to protect customers from this intrusion of privacy.
