Liberia: Protesting UL Students Storm Capitol Building

Over 30 protesting students of the University of Liberia (UL) on Tuesday, January 21, 2014 stormed the Capitol Building in demand of the re-opening of the university. The protesting students, who were seen chanting slogans such as : "No University, No Annual Message, No University, No Annual Message!!", attracted lot of on lookers, including legislative staff at the Capitol Building.

In November 20, 2013, the university has been shut down because of demands made by both the students and the University of Liberia Faculty Association (ULFA).  The faculty and students have demanded the immediate resignation of the University's Vice President for Academic Affairs and Provost, Dr. Wede Elliot-Brownell, reinstatement of lecturers and professors 'illegally' dismissed and salary increment. Dr. Brownell has vowed not to resign, despite of pressure for her to do so
